Dinner in the City

For this property launch we harked back to the 30’s when this building was originally built. City Gate house is undergoing an extensive refurbishment and this event presented the future plans for the property to the guest agents. The space is a currently a building site so the challenge was to create a stylish and comfortable space for our guests for the evening. Through clever use of draping, light projections and a large number of colourful uplighters, our dinner guests enjoyed dinner in a unique setting.

We created a diamond shape table set up to allow for entertainment to move freely through the middle. Guests were served classically inspired canapés and freshly shucked oysters alongside cocktails before being seated for an upscale surf and turf affair. Grilled rib eye steak was offered along with roasted halibut and both served with pommes pont neuf in beef dripping, summery mixed leaf and heritage tomato and onion salads. All the favourite sauces graced the tables – peppercorn, béarnaise, salsa verde and horseradish crème fraîche. Pudding was a take on Millionaire’s shortbread – a chocolate sphere filled with honeycomb, vanilla ice cream, shortbread and served with a hot salted caramel sauce poured from above causing the sphere to implode on itself.

Guests were entertained post dinner by tap dance act, Tap Factory. Dressed like 1930’s workmen who worked on the Empire State building back in the 30’s, they put on an energetic and rhythmic performance.
